History/Overview
Introduced to North America in 2017, the Giulia is a compact sport sedan from Italy's Alfa Romeo. Launched a year earlier in other markets, the Giulia was Alfa's first sedan model since 2011.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
For 2020, the Giulia gets interior upgrades that project a more upscale look and feel, along with a new 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen. There's also a new body kit for cars in Sport and higher trim levels. New options include an advanced driver assistance system consisting of active safety features.
Available Trims
Giulia trim levels begin with a base model, which leads to Sport, Ti, Ti Sport, Ti Sport Carbon, Ti Lusso, and Quadrifoglio.
Quadrifoglio is the only one to use a 2.9L twin-turbo V6; all other Giulia models get a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder. All-wheel drive is an option with the four-cylinder; an eight-speed automatic transmission is common to all Giulia variants.
Standard Features
Standard kit across the four-cylinder range includes leather seating, 17-inch wheels, passive keyless entry, remote engine start, bi-xenon headlights, LED taillights, drive mode selector and rear parking sensors.
Sport adds trim-specific front and rear fascia, 18-inch wheels, gloss black exterior trim, and painted brake calipers.
Ti gets dark grey wood interior trim; Ti Sport gains 19-inch wheels, aluminum interior trim, and sport seats.
Ti Lusso trim reverts to 18-inch wheels, and brings luxury seats, a choice of oak or walnut wood interior trim, and an air quality system.
Ti Sport Carbon boasts carbon fibre interior and exterior trim, and gets dark 19-inch wheels.
Finally, Quadrifoglio gets genuine carbon fibre interior trim, Brembo brakes, and the Alfa DNA drive mode selector.
Key Options
Key among the Giulia's options is the new advanced driver assistance system, or ADAS, which bundles highway assist, traffic jam assist, active lane keeping assist, active lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and drowsy driver detection.
Those items are in addition to an existing driver assistance package of adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and forward collision warning.
You can also kit a Giulia out with an active suspension, a limited-slip differential, auto-dimming side mirrors, heated rear seats, and a dual-pane sunroof.
Fuel Economy
As of this writing, Alfa Romeo hadn't published the Giulia's 2020 model year fuel consumption figures. Those estimates should be very similar to the numbers for the 2019 model, which are 10.0/7.2 L/100 km (city/highway) with the four-cylinder engine and RWD, and 10.5/7.7 with AWD.
The high-performance Quadrifoglio's ratings are 13.8/9.6 L/100 km.
Competition
The Alfa Romeo Giulia competes with the BMW 3 Series, Audi's A4, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Volvo's S60, the Lexus IS and Acura TLX, Infiniti's Q50, and the Cadillac CT5.
